DESCRIPTION: Big money continues to dominate American politics and elections\, limiting who can run\, who gets elected\, and the social problems our leaders address.  Both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions are saturated with special interest dollars.  Are we really ready to effectively limit the influence of big money in politics\, and can it happen under a new Administration and Congress?  Is the opportunity at hand for real reform? \n\n\n\nElection and campaign experts Professor Guy-Uriel E. Charles of the University of Minnesota Law School; Professor David Schultze of Hamline University; and Bob Edgar will discuss the ongoing problems with money in politics and campaign finance reform\, including the continuing dominance of big money donors\, outside groups\, the convention loophole\, the failure that is the Federal Elections Commission\, and the demise of the presidential campaign finance system.  The discussion will use the conventions and the activities around them to illustrate how big a role money continues to play in our politics\, but will turn a hopeful eye to the future\, including discussion of Common Cause’s newly released report\, Campaign Finance Reform: An Agenda for the Next Administration.\nFREE
